Car enthusiasts showed off their best automobiles and bikes while supporting the Western Reserve Fire Department during the Poland Rotary Club’s third annual Car and Bike Show Aug. 23.
“We get about 120 cars and everyone can go and look at their favorite cars and vote which one they feel is the best. The funds and the proceeds go to the Poland firemen to raise money for the education and equipment,” said Rotarian Mary Ann Carano.
Hundreds gathered around their favorite cars for photo opportunities. Some vehicles were particularly special to their owners. Jim Lagese, of Austintown, dedicated his 1958 Pontiac Star Chief to his wife, Dolores, by air brushing their names and their favorite song,” In the Still of the Night,” on the back.
“She was excited when I showed her at first. I’ve loved cars ever since I was younger. It makes me feel good when people look at my car because I worked so hard on it,” Lagese said.
There were many activities for everyone to enjoy, including a 50/50 raffle, Chinese auction, games and food. Local businesses also showed their support and interacted with the community. Poland First Place Bank kept some people entertained with games, prizes and its Wheel of Fortune inspired game.
“We’re using a “spin the wheel” and talking about our great rates and our checking. Everybody loves the wheel and our rates,” said Assistant Sales Manager Kathy Gletchy.
