120s shutout by Canfield Little Cards
The 120-pound Little Falcons (2-6) ran into a powerful Little Cards (8-0) squad, falling 40-0 Oct. 7 to finish out the regular season. Christopher Scott, Todd Simons, Ryan Gordon, Daniel Newman and Christian Bermudez all turned in solid efforts for the Falcons.
The Falcons will meet the Struthers Little Wildcats in the YAC league playoffs at Boardman on Oct. 21.
Austintown Colts beat Poland, prep for playoffs
The Austintown Colts 100-pound team ended the regular season undefeated after shutting out the Poland Little Bulldogs 30-0 last weekend. Touchdowns were scored by Donovan Oliver (2), CJ Schisler and brothers Devon and Devin Winford.
In the 120-pound contest, the Colts fell to the Bulldogs 8-0 in overtime. The Colts will face Poland again during the second week of playoffs on Oct. 21.
The Colts 140-pounders finished second in their conference after beating Poland 22-0. Touchdowns were posted by Tyrell Oliver (60-yard run) and Noah James. Brock Kimble added a two-point conversion. The squad will also face Poland again in the playoffs Oct. 21.
140s lose in OT, prep for playoffs
The ALF 140-pounders (7-1) suffered their first loss of the season, falling 12-6 in overtime to Canfield (8-0) in the regular season finale.
Austintown scored first on a touchdown pass from Andrew Bretsik to Nathaniel Fowler that covered 45 yards. The defense dominated with textbook tackles and lots of physical play as the Falcons held the 6-0 lead until the late stages of the third quarter when Canfield scored the equalizer.
The two teams battled through the rain and cold and ended regulation play deadlocked at 6-6. The Falcons failed to score on the first possession of overtime and the Cardinals ended the contest by virtue of a touchdown run on third down.
Emanuel Dawkins, Daniel Ifft, Deondre’ McKeever, and Dra Rushton all played well in defeat.
The Falcons will travel to Howland Oct. 21 where they will play the winner of this weekend’s YAC first-round playoff game between Struthers and Mathews.
ALF 100-pounders fall in regular season finale
The 100-pound Little Falcons played hard on Oct. 7, but they could not overcome the stingy defense and the efficient offense of the Canfield Little Cardinals in a 29-0 loss at Falcon Stadium.
Joseph Serensky, Adam Emerick, John Edmonds, Peyton Quarles, Adam Bedock, Cameron Smith, Terrance Pankey and David Ashburn played well in the loss.
The Falcons ended the regular season with a 2-6 record and are off this weekend as they prepare to face the Boardman Little Spartans Oct. 21 in the YAC league playoffs.
